Born and raised in Southern California, I have been drawing, painting, and writing about landscapes, architecture and people of the American Southwest for most of my adult life. My painting subject and style is heavily influenced by the California Impressionists of the early 20th Century, including Edgar Payne, Anna Hills and Alfred Mitchell. I have studied in the field with prominent contemporary landscape artists such as John Comer, Ray Roberts and Jeff Yeomans. My work belongs in private collections throughout the United States and in several countries around the world, including Ireland, Germany, Brazil, New Zealand and Tunisia. I am also the published author of Natives in Exile, a literary novel set in a small fictional town in the Mojave Desert, and Semper Aloha, a memoir about growing up in a USMC family stationed in Hawaii in the mid-1960s. After retiring from a long and rewarding teaching career in 2018, I have been working "en plein air" (outdoors) on a regular basis in La Jolla, California.
