California Plein Air

I have recently joined the legions of artists who take their brushes and easel outside to paint in the open air, in the tradition of Monet and Van Gogh. So far, I have only been painting in La Jolla, but I plan to expand my range once I have this place down. It is a challenge to paint the ocean after many years of concentrating on mountains and deserts, but I am pretty happy with my early efforts.

I have discovered the joys of painting outdoors in natural light. This kind of painting forces me to both observe and experience nature more intimately, plus I am more likely to meet people who share a common love of art and the environment we all share.
